What per-room security deposit means in practice
When each bedroom has its own lease, each deposit has its own return deadline, and that deadline starts when that resident moves out — not when the house finally empties. Deposits are generally a liability you may owe back, and damage in a shared area that cannot be attributed to one person is rarely a clean deduction from one person’s deposit. Limits, accounts, notices, and deadlines are set by state and local law.
One resident moves out on the 18th; their $600 deposit is itemized and returned on that resident’s own deadline while three housemates remain in place.
