Notice period

Plain-English definition

The required time between giving a notice and the date the related action can take effect.

What notice period means in practice

Notice periods can come from the lease or applicable law and may vary by notice type, tenancy, delivery method, and jurisdiction. A renewal calendar should work backward from the controlling deadline with time for decision-making and delivery.

Example

If a lawful nonrenewal notice must arrive 60 days before lease end, the manager schedules review and approval well before that date.
